What does a consult look like?
Each person, condition and injury are unique so osteopathic treatment will vary from person to person.
We will ask a series of questions about your problem and enquire into your symptoms. These questions may also include a detailed medical history, any medications or supplements you are taking and questions that may not seem relevant to your current problem.
From here, we will conduct a full osteopathic examination, including clinical tests. This may range from neurological testing, physical examination, orthopedic testing, postural assessment and muscle testing and movements.
Osteopathy takes a very holistic approach to treatment. This means that we may examine more than just the problematic area. For example, if you are suffering from knee pain, we might even assess the foot, lower back and even your neck.
What does the treatment look like?
Osteopathy is a manual therapy. This means it is hands on. Therapy may include massage, stretching, repetitive movements and manipulation. Most treatments are gentle and should not cause lasting discomfort. However, it is not uncommon for some areas to be tender than others. Some techniques may cause bruising. We will always treat cautiously and attempt to make things as comfortable as possible for you.
Osteopaths are well educated health professionals. We have the knowledge to provide you with things to do between your appointments. We may provide rehabilitation exercises, stretching, nutritional changes or supplementation. On returning to us, we will continue to check up with progress and make sure you are achieving your health goals.
